Major Fairs Associated with Sages

The fairs associated with sages in Haryana are as follows:

  • Yayati Fair Yayati was the son of Raja Nahusha, a king of Chandra dynasty. He was married to Devyani, the daughter of Shukracharya. The pilgrimage site associated with Yayati is situated in Pehowa (Kurukshetra) in Haryana.
  • It is believed that Yayati organised a sacred yagya on the banks of river Saraswati. At this place, a fair is organised on the 11th day of Krishna Paksha in the month of Chaitra (March - April).
  • Parashar Fair The pilgrimage site of sage Parashar is situated in Bahlolpur village in Karnal. Fairs are organised every year at this place in the months of Chaitra (March-April) and Baisakh (April-May). Saint Parashar is said to have composed Parashara Smriti Granth in Sanskrit language.
